If this sounds like you, you’re one of the many people who bought a hardtop Mustang thinking it would be the same as having the convertible version, but now you wish you could open your Mustang’s roof up to the sky. Fortunately, there are several options available through aftermarket dealers that can allow you to bring the sky a little closer to your Mustang’s driver’s seat.
Ragtop Kits
If you want to overhaul your car’s roof entirely and transform your vehicle from hardtop into a convertible, then you’ll want to utilize a Mustang ragtop kit. Ragtop kits provide you with all of the materials you need to convert your car, but the process is not a simple one. First, you must remove most or all of your car’s roofing, which sounds easy but isn’t. Then, you have to install a retractable canvas cover that glides in and out of place at the press of a button. If you’re not highly skilled at automotive repairs and upgrades, you may want to have a professional shop install the ragtop device for you. Once installed, however, you’ll be able to enjoy the open air at the flick of a switch, and a ragtop is every bit as good as sealing out the elements as a normal roof is.
Sunroof Kits
If you don’t want to invest the time and money into installing an entire ragtop, you can go with a great in-between option. Sunroofs are perfect for getting a glimpse of the sky overhead and for having an additional window to let the cool summer breeze in, but they aren’t as large and all-encompassing as ragtops are. When installing a Mustang aftermarket sunroof, you’ll only need to have a small portion of your car’s roof removed, and the new window will be installed directly where that open space is. Most drivers choose to go with an electronic sunroof kit, as they desire the ease of use that comes with the small extra expense. That way, you again can just press a button, and the sunroof window will retract back and open your car’s interior up to the outside world.
